Decorative Ceramic Tile

...it would have been WAY faster to convert seven of my most popular 4"x4" tile designs to the 2"x2" size. But it would have been way less fun, so it is probably for the best that there is no such thing as a shrink ray. If you aren't familiar with my work, these tiles I just finished sculpting probably won't look all that small to you. But to me, they look amazingly, adorably tiny. Like fun sized candy bars. I have been making most these designs for several years in the 4"x4" size, so they feel like old friends. It...

Yesterday was the winter solstice, otherwise known as the shortest day of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere.  That means as of today, the days are getting longer.  Maybe that is why this morning  I woke up before the alarm went off, feeling refreshed and enthusiastic.  My head is filled with new tile designs that I am looking forward to sculpting.  Here is a rough doodle of some ideas I am kicking around for new 4"x8"s. At least that is what happened to me when I opened an email and saw this amazing art tile installation. Every time I open up installation pictures from a customer, it feels like Christmas morning.  Especially when the installation is beautifully done and the pictures are good quality, as is the case with these bathroom pictures from John Ueng-McHale, which feature my 3"x6" vine tiles: This bathroom is a classic; I love the old-fashioned subway tiles in white.  And check out the amazing, retro black, white and grey hex tiles on the floor: I think the art tiles add just...

Yesterday, I took two big boxes of tiles down to McKay Bricker Gallery in downtown Kent. Now, they once again have a wide selection of Emu Tiles in stock.  Many different designs and sizes are available to view and purchase.  They are mostly glazed in Autumn, but if you ask, the gallery now has a full set of glaze samples behind the counter.  This makes it easy to place a special order through the gallery. So if you are in Kent or the surrounding area, and you want to see some handmade tiles, go to McKay Bricker Gallery.  Not only...

Here are pictures from a customer who loves art, and has a knack for displaying it her home.  In her kitchen, she had 4"X4" tree themed art tiles installed along with stone field tile, with fantastic results. I love her shelf of art pottery at the end of the wooden counter!  Great use of natural materials.  Here is another view of the area above the stove: And here is a picture of the sink side of the kitchen: Love the soapstone counters and art pottery display! Everything integrates so well in this room.  Thanks for sending pictures.  It makes me...
