Ceramic & Glass & Slate

This installation was a long time in the making. The customer ordered some art tiles, which I made and shipped to her. Then she realized that she needed more to complete her vision for her kitchen, so she ordered more. But Autumn is a high variation glaze which comes out different with every firing, so it took me several tries to match her original tiles. Fortunately, she was very patient & is now quite happy with the results. Yay!

An assortment of handmade tiles are set among glass and slate mosaic tiles, surrounded by a ceramic border to make a decorative panel over the range. It reminds me of a tapestry or a magic carpet. Here is a close up of the mosaic & art tiles:

In the words of the homeowner, "the slate pieces pick up the grey-greens, the glass, the browns and golds [of the handmade tiles]"  I couldn't agree more!

Little medallions of mosaic tiles carry the theme around the room in a pleasing way. The dark gray grout also helps create a cohesive look when blending darker and lighter colored tiles. I love the way this unique & beautiful design came together. Thank you, P.L., for sharing pictures of your lovely kitchen.
