A Beach House Upgrade

The fireplace in a beach house in South Carolina just got an upgrade! The homeowners chose a mix of seaside plants and animals for their fireplace feature tiles- so fitting for the coastal setting. The combination of honey and spearmint glazes enhances the breezy, ocean-inspired feel, and I can’t get over how beautifully the honey glaze complements the hardwood floors.

A turtle and octopus make an appearance among the 4x4 field tiles, along with other animals like a dolphin, crab and starfish.

One of my favorite things about this installation is how they chose to frame herons and cattails to create a vibrant focal point that draws the eye to the heart of the design. The natural variation in the spearmint glaze adds even more depth and movement, making each tile feel like a little piece of the ocean.

The heron design repeats on the hearth, adding extra interest for those who look down:

Below is a glimpse of the original fireplace and some “in progress” installation photos as well as  so you can see the transformation.

A huge thank you to T. and M.K. for being such a pleasure to work with and for sharing these photos. I love seeing my tiles in their new home! May you enjoy them for many years to come.
