Mayflies are considered a nuisance by some, especially around here in the spring when they swarm by millions to mate on the shores of lake Erie. Though their vast numbers may seem overwhelming, they are actually an important part of the aquatic ecosystem, providing vast amounts of food for fish, birds, and other wildlife.
In art and literature, mayflies often symbolize the brevity of life since an adult mayfly lives for only a day at the most. Perhaps a single day feels like years to a mayfly?
This design is also available in the 2"x2" and 4"x4" sizes. Price listed here is for a single 3"x3" tile, group photo is for reference only.
This handmade tile comes in a choice of many glazes, all food safe. The mayfly tile can be hung on the wall; no framing required. It is also appropriate for permanent installation. Tiles are about 1/2 inch thick at the edge, but the raised design makes them slightly thicker in those areas. The mayfly tile is inspired by nature and made of a durable ceramic material that is fired once to 1800F, then glazed and fired to 2200F.
