Ceramic Handmade Tile Installations

I can barely believe how far behind I am with posting customer installation photos! I am sitting on dozens of photos of beautiful installations that I have received over the last year or more. Why haven't I been posting them? Who knows! Mostly I have just been really busy making tiles. But I realize that since so many of my wonderful customers have taken the time to send pictures, the I really need to make the time to post them. One of my many goals for summer break is to catch up on posting installation pictures. Or, if I don't catch up completely, I can at least...

A big thanks to H.U. for sharing these photos of her newly tiled hearth, along with her bunnies, Pepper and Winifred!  She installed an assortment of plant and animal tiles in Autumn glaze, including a pair of bunny tiles as tribute to her beloved pets. (A complete list of tiles appears at the end of this blog entry.) Doesn't the picture above capture an exceptionally cheery scene? A nice, warm fire with sun streaming in, along with a snuggly friend... what could be better? The next two pictures are close ups of each side of the hearth. Here is the left: And here is the right:...

There is an emphasis on hand- crafted details in this high-end kitchen. The homeowners decided to frame a herring- bone pattern above the cook top....    .... and installed a 2"x2" Bee tile in each corner of the frame!     Thank you, T.O., for sharing your pictures! (When we switched to our current website, some lovely installation pictures never made it over from the old version of EmuTile.com. I am going to attempt to re- post all of those "lost" installations, starting with this one. Please note, this particular installation features "Northern Lights" glaze which has since been discontinued.) E.A.  sent me these gorgeous pictures of her hearth.  She ordered two of my 3"x3" Fleur tiles in Northern Lights glaze, and installed them herself.  She found the field tiles on Craigslist and got them for a song; they were left over from someone else's installation. What a lucky find! They really complete the...

Here we are, one week into 2015. As I write this, the wind chill outside is negative 11 F, but the days are getting longer and that makes my heart sing. The beginning of a new year always inspires me to do a little life review. You know the deal; Where am I going? Where have I been? Looking back, I realized that I officially registered my business name with the state of Ohio nine years ago yesterday. I actually got my vendors license and started selling a few tiles all the way back in September of 2004; it just took me a while to commit to the business name. It is hard...

It has been way too long since I have posted customer installation pictures! Especially since I have been sitting on some really nice ones, including these: This pretty kitchen features a classic color palette of white, black and gray. The backsplash is a consists a combination of painted wood paneling and tile. The tile above the cook top is a mix of natural stone and ceramic tile. The centerpiece is a 6"x6" "Tree of Life" tile made by yours truly. The picture at the top takes a closer look. I love how this installation shows you don't have to use a lot of handmade tiles...

This bathroom features all sorts of wild creatures- including the brand new Mountain Lion tile! Here it is, installed: The mountain lion (also known as a cougar) was a special request from the homeowner who works with the group Predator Defense, and has a special love for wildcats. I don't normally include habitat on my animal tiles, but I felt that a mountain lion really should have a mountain to stand on. The bathroom features a mix of animals in both celadon and autumn glazes, set among two inch and twelve inch field tiles: I especially love the way this four inch turtle was cut into the...

When I received these lovely pictures of an Arts and Crafts hearth from Jeanne in Maine, I felt anything but blue! It is always super exciting for me when I get to see my work installed. These pictures were extra thrilling because this is the first time I have seen most of these particular tiles in a finished project. And what a project this is! The hearth creates a unique focal point in an appealing & airy space.... Here is an overall view, showing the handcrafted oak mantle, a charming painting of an ocean scene, and of course, handmade tiles!...
