Fireplace Hearth Tiles

So pleased that I get to see how great this installation turned out!! This project was a bit outside my comfort zone. Over the years, a few very special customers have installed my tiles in their homes, then moved, then ordered more tiles to install in their new homes! This installation belongs to one of those select few who have installed my work at more than one address. I don't seem to have to picture on file of the first installation, but my records tell me the glaze was autumn and the designs were mostly animals. This second installation is mostly plant designs glazed in celadon, with heart tile glazed in white for a focal point. The celadon glaze looks almost white...

No, the mantle isn't made of birch; the handmade subway tiles that surround the feature tiles are in a new glaze called "birch" which I am a bit smitten with at the moment. It is so yummy looking, it reminds me toast. Or maybe a toasted marshmallow? Really pleased that my tiles are a focal point in this inviting New Jersey living room. One of the homeowners is a shop teacher so he installed the tiles and woodwork himself with great care and precision. He sent a nice note along with the photos that said, "Everything came out the way we wanted and your tiles added a signature touch. We get a lot of compliments." I didn't make the grey field tiles, only the feature tiles. I am so pleased to share these photos! All three of these projects are by the same family. They mixed different sizes of art tiles in various shades of green, brown and gold with 1"x1" small glass and quartz tiles to great effect. The kitchen island pictured above has a light under the edge of the counter so it looks extra pretty at night. The homeowners say they have received many compliment so far, and I can see why. I can barely believe how far behind I am with posting customer installation photos! I am sitting on dozens of photos of beautiful installations that I have received over the last year or more. Why haven't I been posting them? Who knows! Mostly I have just been really busy making tiles. But I realize that since so many of my wonderful customers have taken the time to send pictures, the I really need to make the time to post them. One of my many goals for summer break is to catch up on posting installation pictures. Or, if I don't catch up completely, I can at least...

A big thanks to H.U. for sharing these photos of her newly tiled hearth, along with her bunnies, Pepper and Winifred!  She installed an assortment of plant and animal tiles in Autumn glaze, including a pair of bunny tiles as tribute to her beloved pets.
