It is hard to believe that I have been participating in indigenous gallery's annual artTILE show for a whole decade! And it is even harder to believe that this year's show is going to be the last one. But all good things must end, so if you have been meaning to check out artTILE, this will be your last chance! It is a huge honor for me to have had work in all ten shows. I am sad to see this end, but I am also really looking forward to the grand finale. So many amazing tile artists take part...

About 10 years ago, my work used to be shown at the "Log Cabin Gallery" in Peninsula, Ohio. The Log Cabin is a small art gallery/ gift shop that hosts seasonal shows, complete with festive art openings for every event. Participating artists attend the openings and help staff the gallery on weekends. It was a great experience for me at the time, but as my business grew, I could no longer afford the time commitment involved in being a Log Cabin artist. That made me sad, because Peninsula is a neat town with a surprising amount of art for its...

What a thrill it is to be part of the ninth annual artTILE extravaganza at indigenous gallery in beautiful Cincinnati, Ohio!  The show features over 1000 tiles by 30 contemporary tile artists, including yours truly. I have participated in all 9 shows, but this year I believe I sent more tiles than ever before. Above: 2"x2" tiles, Below: 4"x4" tiles. Without a doubt, I sent more "four leaf clover" tiles than ever before... The show opened on April 28th and runs until June 10th, 2018. This is one of my favorite times of year. The blossoms are blooming, the leaves are budding, and indigenous gallery is having their annual artTILE extravaganza!! It is a huge honor for me to be a part of this invitational show.  (They even put a picture of some of my tiny tiles on the back of the postcard!) If you have never been to indigenous gallery, you are missing out. I have been fortunate to be a part of every one of the previous artTILE shows, and they just keep getting better every year. There couldn't be a more perfect...

Yesterday the post office was closed, but that didn't stop us from making a tile delivery. Darrell and I took advantage of the nice weather to drive these three boxes of tiles to Ginko Gallery in Oberlin, OH. This packing job would not have been adequate for the mail, but it worked just fine for us yesterday. We have a tradition of delivering tiles to Ginko Gallery in person whenever possible. It is the first gallery ever to carry my work, so we have been going there for over a decade. We try to visit at least once a year....

A few months ago, I was contacted by an old friend. Linda Goik used to run "Local Girl Gallery" in Lakewood. "Local Girl" was a real asset to the community, as well as being one of the first galleries to carry my work. Like a lot of people, I loved that place and was sad when it closed in 2012. So naturally I was thrilled to find out that Linda recently became the shop manager for the nearby "BAYarts" gallery, and I jumped at the chance to have some of my tiles in their upcoming holiday show. Here is some...

(photo courtesy of DancingEye.com) Today is the first day that Emu Tile will be available for sale at "Dancing Eye Gallery," a 20 year old art gallery located in Northville, Michigan.  Northville is a cute, walkable town approximately halfway between two cites known for handmade tiles, Detroit and Ann Arbor.  I am thrilled that my work is now being shown in the home region of both Pewabic and Motawi handmade tile companies. The first batch of tiles I sent are mostly in the blue color range, with just a few white tiles.  Here are some of the 4"x4" size: And here are some of the 2"x2"s.  The glazes are: Watercolor Blue, Celadon, Pacific...

I love the idea of being an "artist in action." That's me! This is the 6th year that I have had the pleasure of participating in indigenous gallery's annual artTILE extravaganza in Cincinnati, Ohio. It has been a huge honor for me to have my work shown alongside some of the best handmade tile art in the US. Darrell and I drove down over the weekend and we were truly blown away by the quality and diversity of work. As a featured artist, I spent Saturday at the gallery, demonstrating my sculpting technique, meeting new people, and catching up with some of my Cincinnati friends and family. It was a fantastic weekend.  Throughout the day,...
