Wow, it is surreal seeing my work in a book, especially a book as amazing as this one. The incomparable Marion Brandis has published her opus: "Handmade Tiles: Creative Techniques" and it is such an honor to see some Emu Tiles in the mix, alongside the work of Angela Evans, Reptile Tiles, and so many other talented and hardworking tile makers. This is one of my favorite times of year. The blossoms are blooming, the leaves are budding, and indigenous gallery is having their annual artTILE extravaganza!! It is a huge honor for me to be a part of this invitational show.  (They even put a picture of some of my tiny tiles on the back of the postcard!) Emu Tile have appeared in "This Old House Magazine" twice. Here they are (along with the work of other amazing tile makers) in a recent feature called "Animal art tiles:" In addition, our 3"x3" Sunflower tile appeared in a piece about a historic Sag Harbor cottage that was completely remodeled. It is always a thrill to receive customer installation photos! This recently completed kitchen back splash installation features our 6"x6" "Tree of Life" handmade tile, framed by a square of marble tiles over the stove top:   The glaze used for the tree tile is slightly different than our normal white glaze. The homeowner wanted something with a warmer tone to match the rest of the tiles. Fortunately we had a glaze on hand that fit the bill. Plain, undecorated "field tiles" are once again available in my online store. I used to love making 4"x4" and 6"x6" field tiles until limited kiln space forced me to stop. Now that I have my new large kiln up and running, I am ready to start cranking them out again. What a great concept: take an art tile, frame it with art tiles, and presto! Durable, washable wall art for the kitchen. Bonus: this is wall art that never needs straightening (after the initial installation, of course). This kitchen features three 6"x6" art tiles in northern lights glaze, framed up with a combination of 3"x6" and 3"x3" art tiles in buckwheat glaze: I can't tell from these pictures if the field tiles are natural stone or ceramic; in any case the color harmonizes beautifully with the buckwheat and northern lights glazes. Look what a semi truck brought me yesterday. Two new kilns!!! After years of "making do," I am super excited to get modern, professional quality kilns. DRU and I will spend most of the weekend setting these beauties up (thanks, DRU!) and then I will do some test firing. After that, my workflow is really going to change for the better. More kiln space = more tiles in less time. Yay! Plus, I will finally be able to offer field tiles on the website.  admiring the fine craftsmanship  Stay tuned for updates! 

Earlier this month, I resized some of my old designs. Seven popular designs that were available in the 4"x4" size can now be made in the 2"x2" size as well. I also made one completely new design for good measure. I am thrilled with how they all came out and I hope you will like them, too "Oak Leaf" is the new design, so it is only available in the 2"x2" size at this time.
