Doesn't this kitchen seem inviting? It's in a log cabin in the Northeast.
Over the stove, there are two six by six inch "Birds on a Branch" tiles surrounded by two by two inch tiles featuring various plants and animals.
Normally "birds on a branch" is a three tile set; I like how the homeowners mixed it up by making it shorter and adding an assortment of two by twos. Here is a close up of the smaller tiles before they were installed:
The woman who lives in this house told me that her father, a second generation tile setter, came out of retirement temporarily to do her kitchen backsplash. He did a great job!
I got into making tiles partly due to the fact that my dad sometimes sets tiles and when I was growing up I used to help him with his projects, so I really enjoyed hearing this detail about this installation. Gotta love good Dads!
Just for fun, here is one more picture of the area over the range, before the tiles were installed:
Thank you so much, TLS, for including my tiles in your project, and for taking the time to send pictures!
