Handmade Tile

Reason #3 of 101 reasons why handmade art tiles are great:  they help the economy! In the past few months, several articles have been written which promote the idea that small independent crafting / manufacturing businesses are the future. Watercolor Blue is a bright, beautiful glaze which is glossy and translucent. It brings out the precision details in my tiles extremely well. Every little detail came through in this set of sea life tiles I made recently: There are more examples in the other sizes, and I will keep adding pictures whenever I have a the time.  Someday, I want to have every tile in my line pictured in every glaze, but that is going to be over a thousand pictures.  It may take me a while :-) Handmade Tiles Referenced:  Cypress Tree 4"x4" Ceramic Handmade Tile Dragonfly 4"x4"...

...to Ginko Gallery we went!  Today was unseasonably warm and sunny, so DRU and I made a trip to Oberlin to deliver art tiles to our beloved Ginko Gallery.  Ginko Gallery was the first ever gallery to carry my work, and I am forever grateful for that.  The owner, Liz, is such a warm and nurturing person, she really helped my get past my insecurity as a new artist way back in 2004.   Emu Tiles have been available at the Gallery continuously since then.  And so have kittens!   Did I mention there are kittens?   Liz fosters kittens...

Check out this wonderful little shop, which now carries Emu Art Tiles: The Emporium of Nantucket 33 Main Street | Nantucket, MA 02554 This family run boutique has a history that goes all the way back to 1945. They stock items that reflect spirit of the Island, and will be featuring tiles from my sea life collection.   

Wood and tile, that is!  Especially tile that is glazed it our most popular glaze, Autumn.  Here are some examples of tiles inlaid in natural woodwork in a variety of settings.  First up, a lovely hearth. The homeowner incorporated five of my 4"x4" art tiles into his hand built fireplace surround. In this corner:  "Hemlock" And In this corner:  "White Pine" In the center:  "Dragonfly,"  "Tree of Life,"  "Turtle" In the same home, there is an amazing handcrafted doorway that also makes use of my 4"x4" art tiles in the Autumn Glaze: In this picture:   "Wildflower"  All of the above...

At least that is what happened to me when I opened an email and saw this amazing art tile installation. Every time I open up installation pictures from a customer, it feels like Christmas morning.  Especially when the installation is beautifully done and the pictures are good quality, as is the case with these bathroom pictures from John Ueng-McHale, which feature my 3"x6" vine tiles: This bathroom is a classic; I love the old-fashioned subway tiles in white.  And check out the amazing, retro black, white and grey hex tiles on the floor: I think the art tiles add just...
