Fireplace Tile Ideas

So pleased that I get to see how great this installation turned out!! This project was a bit outside my comfort zone. Over the years, a few very special customers have installed my tiles in their homes, then moved, then ordered more tiles to install in their new homes! This installation belongs to one of those select few who have installed my work at more than one address. I don't seem to have to picture on file of the first installation, but my records tell me the glaze was autumn and the designs were mostly animals. This second installation is mostly plant designs glazed in celadon, with heart tile glazed in white for a focal point. The celadon glaze looks almost white...

No, the mantle isn't made of birch; the handmade subway tiles that surround the feature tiles are in a new glaze called "birch" which I am a bit smitten with at the moment. It is so yummy looking, it reminds me toast. Or maybe a toasted marshmallow? Really pleased that my tiles are a focal point in this inviting New Jersey living room. One of the homeowners is a shop teacher so he installed the tiles and woodwork himself with great care and precision. He sent a nice note along with the photos that said, "Everything came out the way we wanted and your tiles added a signature touch. We get a lot of compliments." I didn't make the grey field tiles, only the feature tiles. These pictures arrived in my inbox in April of last year! Time to share them at long last. This installation was designed and completed by a lovely couple who lives right here in our neighborhood. The wife found some of my tiles at McKay Bricker Gallery in town, then ordered more from me as a Christmas present for her husband, who then used them to help transform a rather plain fireplace surround into a proper hearth. This hearth is in a 1929 bungalow that is being restored in the Arts & Craft style. The couple who lives there designed and built the mantel (the husband is a woodworker) and also chose, laid out, and and installed the tiles themselves.
