Handmade Tile
A fundraiser for Save The Animals Foundation at indigenous gallery
A large number of fresh tiles recently arrived at indigenous craft gallery in beautiful Cincinnati, Ohio. From October 13th through the end of the month, 20% of the purchase price of all tiles made by me will be donated to the Save the Animals foundation. Here is some of what is available: 3"x3" handmade tiles in leaf green glaze and cobalt wash Save the animals is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter which has had a challenging year this year. You can help by shopping at indigenous gallery! 2"x2" handmade tiles I tried to include lots of animals designs in...
A Periwinkle Kitchen
Here is a little secret: a lot of the time I think my customers are more creative than I am. They always manage to install my tiles in new and wonderful ways that I never would have thought of! Take this installation, for example: The homeowners wanted their sophisticated new kitchen to have some earthy, arty, one-of-a-kind features that reflect who they are as people. They came up with the idea to inlay a grouping of art tiles behind the sink. Each tile represents a plant or animal that has meaning in their lives. And because they are fellow Ohioans,...
Aspen Leaf Stairway
The tiles in this installation shipped several years ago. I remember this specific order because I thought the tiles came out so nicely that I took a picture and had it printed on promotional postcards which I send out with other tile orders. Since I see the picture of these tiles frequently, I often wondered where they ended up. My curiosity was satisfied last night when these remarkable pictures arrived in my inbox. The homeowners designed and built this staircase themselves, with help from Community Builders of Cedarville, Ca. They also installed tiles on the risers! The lighter colored field tiles...

A Forest Green Shower
Oh, how I love customer installation photos! Pictures of this lovely shower just arrived in my inbox and I couldn't be more pleased. The homeowner mixed some of my 2"×2" feature tiles in leaf green glaze with tiles from other manufacturers. Not sure who made the subway tiles, but the green glass tiles are Merola "forest." Love how the stripe of feature tiles is right at eye level! I wanted to call this set of photos "emerald bath" because the band of green reminds me of an emerald necklace, but the colors are closer to forest green than emerald. Whatever you...
Falling Leaves Kitchen
Getting pictures of this kitchen put a smile on my face. It is always a delight to receive customer installation photos! What a thrill and honor to see the creative ways that people integrate my tiles into their homes. These particular homeowners ordered 4x4 inch maple leaf tiles in autumn glaze, then asked their installer to spread them randomly throughout their kitchen backsplash, as if they were sent fluttering by a gentle fall breeze. The installer suggested turning them in all different directions to really give the feel of leaves in fall. The field tiles are by another Ohio tile company...
What's old is new
This design is about 15 years old, but it never made it on the this website or into production until now. After sculpting it and making a mold back in 2004 or 2005, I set it aside and forgot about it. When I rediscovered the mold, I decided I like the design and wanted to add it to my line, but was at a loss as to what I should call it. I sought help on the Emu Tile Instagram page and got two suggestions: "delicate flowers" and "dainty floret," which I combined to make the name, "delicate floret." (Thanks,...
Field tiles are Back!
I am ready to start taking orders for field tiles again! It sounds like Ohio and Pennsylvania (where my clay comes from) are going to begin to gradually re-open non-essential businesses beginning early next month. After talking to my clay supplier, as well as THEIR clay supplier, I am feeling confident that I will not run out of clay and therefore have added plain field tiles back to the online store. Don't forget that field tiles are made to order! Small orders often ship in a month or less. Large orders may take longer! If you have any questions, please...
